Munnar is a town and hill station located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above sea level, in the Western Ghats range of mountains. Also known as the “Kashmir of South India”. The confluence of three rivers namely Kundala, Mudrapuzha, and Nallathani has given this beauty the name “Munnar”.
Munnar is very famous for its tea and spice plantations. It is also famous for the Neelakurinji flower that only blooms once in twelve years. The sight of these blue flowers covering the hills is a sight to behold and must definitely not be missed. Munnar town is situated on the Kannan Devan Hills town in Devikulam taluk and is the biggest panchayat in the Idukki region covering a zone of almost 557 square kilometers (215 sq mi). The closest railway stations are at Ernakulam and Aluva (approximately 140 kilometers (87 mi) by road). The closest airplane terminal is Cochin International Airport, which is 105 kilometers (65 mi) away.
