October 24, 2014 - Andaman and Nicobar, Isands, Tourist Centers

Cinque Islands is a gorgeous place which is the home of a wide variety of species. We are aware of the fact that the Andaman Nicobar is formed by a group of islands (archipelago). Cinque Islands is one among this group. The Cinque islands consist of two islands; they are North Cinque Island and South Cinque Island. It is located on the north of Duncan passage which is a strait between Rutland Island and Passage Island. The north and the south Cinque islands are linked by a sand bar. This is also included in the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park which is also known as Wandoor Marine National Park. There is no human inhabitant, but it is rich in wild flora and fauna. Due to this presence of flora and fauna, it is a famous tourist destination. Colorful fishes, sea weeds, coral reefs, star fish, sea anemones, turtles and crocodiles are found in this island. So the Cinque Island is acknowledged as a sanctuary. It is known for its mangrove forests, tropical forests and beaches. The visibility range of the waters encircling these islands is around 80ft. This will help the travelers to have a close look at the underwater marine life.

The distance between the Cinque islands and Port Blair is around 26 kms. This place can be easily reached from any part of the Andaman but there is no regular boat services to this place so one need to hire boats in order to visit this place. Travelers need to get permission from the forest department for visiting this place but it is not a big hurdle, but staying there during night time is not allowed by the forest department since it is a thickly forested area.

As we have told earlier there are two islands in the Cinque islands. The Manners strait separate the north Cinque islands from the south Cinque Island. A strait is a massive water body which separate two large land areas. There are three rocky isles present in the north Cinque Island which are linked by sand bars. The largest isle among the three is the northernmost one and the southernmost isle is the smallest. The sandbar connecting the northern and the southern islands was destroyed during the tsunami and the Indian Ocean earthquake which had taken place in 2004. There is a light house in the island. If you are lucky then you will be able to see dolphins and sharks in the waters of the northern Cinque islands. So scuba diving is mainly performed by well experienced persons.

The South Cinque Island is located in the middle of the North Cinque Island and the passage islands. This place is famous for scuba diving. The Islands provide us with wide variety of experiences. Scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing are some of the activities performed by the travelers reaching this place. The coral reef gardens surround the islands. A person coming to Andaman and Nicobar should not miss the chance to see the Cinque islands. Since there is no human inhabitant in this area, the travelers need to bring food, water and other things which are of utmost importance, to this place and should take great care of the belongings which they are carrying along with them since there are no safes or cloakrooms for keeping things. It is important to know that the species (both flora and fauna) found in this place are too delicate. A small change in its habitat can lead to the depletion of such species. So the travelers should take care of the waste materials like plastics which they carry along with them.
