The State of Mizoram has its capital at Aizawl lying at a height of 3715 feet above the sea level. Aizawl is a hilly area and is the largest city in Mizoram consisting of more than 290000 people residing there. The people living here belongs to different communities of ethnic culture. The main language used in the city are Mizo, English and Hindi. The Lengpui airport is connected with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata , Imphal International Airport in Imphal and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. Railway Services in Aizawl: The State of Mizoram is linked to Bairabi through railway. The Government is planning to have a broad gauge rail track that links Bairabi and Sairang which is near to Aizawl. This will enable much better rail transport to the State and thereby to Aizawl. Another nearest railway station is Silchar in the State of Assam. State Transport buses can be availed regularly from these places. The State is also taking steps to construct monorail which carries out service between Zemabawk and Kulikawn which can be reached by traveling 5 kilometers. Barak Valley Express, Tripura Passenger and Cachar Express are available from Guwahati to Silchar.
Road transport in Aizawl: The NH 54 connects Aizawl with Silchar and it takes nearly six hours to reach the city. It is also connected to Agartala by NH 40. Aizawl is linked with Imphal by NH 150. The visitors can take the assistance of Taxi which is extensively used. The private buses which is blue and white are also available regularly. In addition, the Mizoram State Road Transport runs buses to other states like Shillong situated in the State of Meghalaya and Guwahati in the State of Assam. The tourists can also take services of sumo taxis which can be availed from Silchar, Shillong and Guwahati. By road, people can reach Guwahati from Aizawl by travelling 523 kilometers and to Silchar by 180 kilometers. To Shillong and Agartala, one will have to travel a distance of 420 and 443 kilometers respectively. From Aizawl, Imphal and Kohima can be reached by traveling 374 and 479 kilometers. The tourists can take taxi or bus to reach these cities.
