
Roy Rogers who was a nature lover said that what was a butterfly garden with no butterflies. Chandigarh, Haryana is always known as a city of Rose Garden, Sun Garden, Rock Garden. But today the butterfly garden which is present in this place also is on the hit list and on its map. This beautiful garden has its location in the front of Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology’s main gate that is located in Sector-26 of Chandigarh.
The butterfly park has 7 acre area spreading with god marriage between landscaping that is meticulous. Special attention, care and heed factors are provided such that a good habitat is created for the butterflies. The park has vegetation fully and to extreme extents combined with numerous varieties and breeds of shrubs and trees. The park further has varieties wonderfully of the host plants for the butterflies that have inclusions of Salix, Ashoka, Capris, Palm, Citrus, Amla, Calotrpis, Mango and others.
Butterflies and flowers need one another. For meeting this needed factor and requirements varieties of plants that are flowering like Dahlia, Petunia, Salvia, Lantana, Marigold, Gazenia and different species should be planted in that butterfly park. Trails of nature have its creation in this way that it is perfect habitat for butterflies out there. There are silence zones which are created for beautiful tiny creatures such that they do not get disturbed when they walk on trails of nature.
Tourist importance:
The sights of butterflies are exciting and interesting. Months between March to October are best time to go to this place in order to have a sight of these colourful butterflies. They can be seen almost all the year round except on winters when they go into hibernation.
Nearly 35 butterfly species are there in this park. Few important and prominent ones amongst these are Apefly, Commander, Common Grass Yellow, Common Blue Bottle, Angled Castor, Blue Mormon, Chocolate Pansy and others.
In North East Corner in this park there is a location of butterfly spacious conservatory that is required by Entomology students who need to study behaviour of the beautiful species of insects.
You can visit this place by bus, taxi, auto-rickshaw or cycle-rickshaw. Those who want to visit the place being outside country or state they can go by flights or trains.
