Ananthagiri Hills, Ranga Reddy, Telangana

Ananthagiri Hills is a gorgeous place which is situated at Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy district, Telangana. The Himayathsagar and the Osmansagar, two important rivers near Hyderabad, receive water from the Ananthagiri hills.  Another specialty of this place is that one of the thick forests in the Telangana state covers this region and the famous Ananthagiri temple is located in this forest. This place is famous for the Musi River or the Muchukunda River, which originates from the Anathagiri hills. The Musi River flows via Hyderabad which is just 5 kms away from Vikarabad. This river meet with Krishna River at Pangal which is in the Nalgonda District and it covers a distance of 240 km before it reaches the Krishna River.

Evidences like fort structures and the ancient caves show that early people were settled in this area. This hill is famous for the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, which is a great tourist attraction. The temple is around 75 kilometres away from the Hyderabad and it was built before 400 years by the Nizam nawabs. Anantha Padmanabha (other form of Lord Vishnu) is the main deity of this temple and the place is known as Ananthagiri because of this temple.

The zigzag road which is built along the sides of the hills gives you a cool driving experience. Coffee plantation can be seen everywhere so this hill appears covered with shades of green colour. Araku valley is also a stunning place near this area. Some of the important places which resemble the natural beauty in this area are Padmapuram Gardens, The Borra Hills and Caves, Katki waterfalls, Tyda Park, Bhavanasi Lake, Dolphin Nose, Galikondalu Viewpoint, Nagasamudram Lake.

The Padmapuram garden is located in the Araku valley where Tree hut lodging is available and gives you a good experience. Most of the visitors will not lose the chance of spending time in these huts.

The Borra Hills and Caves are the major and deepest caves in India with a temple outside. Lord Shiva is the deity worshiped in this temple. This place is located at an altitude of around 1400 mtrs and the cave is of 80 metres deep.  These were found by William King George of Geological Survey of India in the year 1807.

The Katki waterfall is located close to the borra hills and its height is around 50 ft. You could reach this place from Ananthagiri only by treks which will give you a thrilling experience.

Bhavanasi Lake is considered as a sacred lake. It is also known as the Badrinath of the south and it originates from Nallamala Hills.

Dolphin Nose, as the name suggests it is in the shape of a dolphin’s nose which is about 357 m above the ground level. A light house on the top of this rock gives a pleasant view for the eyes and attracts numerous tourists.

Tribal museum: this museum is located at Araku. It contains information about the indigenous people and you could purchase objects prepared by them from here. Tribal style shooting can also be performed here.
